Notice for“Forum for Chemical Youth Elites, Tongji University, 2018”

1. Introduction

Tongji University is one of the leading universities in China underdirect administration of Ministry of Education, listed on “Project 985” and “Project 211”. With a history of over a century, Tongji has valued the balanced development of four functions, i.e. education, research, outreach, and culture inheritance and innovation.

School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (SCCE), Tongji University was founded in 1933 as the Chemistry Department, with Professor Wang Baoren serving as the first dean. Since then, it has made steady progress in all areas and has cultivated outstanding talents, including six academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, making great contributions to the chemical development in China. It was approved as the first-level discipline to award the doctoral degree in 2016. School of Chemical Science and Engineering(SCCE), Tongji University was officially set up in 2016.

Currently, SCCE has 42 full professors and 36 associate professors. The faculty includes 4 professors from "Recruitment Program of Global Experts", 5 winners of "National Science Funds for Outstanding Youths",1 chair professor of "Chang Jiang Scholars Program", 1 professor from"The national youth talent support program", 1 "National Top Talent and Innovation Team", 8 chair professors of "Thousand Young Talent Program and 4 "Eastern Scholars".

In order to further speed up the pace of world-class discipline construction and further implement the strategy of strengthening schools with talents, “2018 Forum for Chemical Youth Elites” is to be held. The Forum aims to invite young talents in chemical-related fields at home and abroad to exchange ideas on scientific frontiers and hot research fields. Having been successfully held for several years, the forum aims to establish a nation-wide talent think tank to promote academic exchanges and  a cross-disciplinary and collaborative innovation research platform.

2. Schedules of this forum

The forum is tentatively scheduled for mid-April 2018 (Time is subject to our final invitation letter) and the total is 3 days.

Initial Schedule: Day 1, check in.

Day 2 Opening Ceremony and Academic Reports,

Day 3Academic Reports, Visit and Seminar, etc.

3. Application requirements

Applicants shall have doctorate degree from a well-known overseas university, or have  doctorate degree from a well-known domestic university and has more than 2 consecutive years of scientific research experience in well-known overseas universities, research institutes and other institutions engaged.

 4. Application Process

Please send your CV (including personal photos, date of birth, education and research experience starting from undergraduate, introduction to research direction, published papers, achievements and awards, etc.) to the forum’s contact email. After the resume is reviewed, SCCE will send an official letter of invitation to the young scholars who passes the review. Invitees shall fill in the receipt within one week after receiving the invitation and confirm whether they will attend the meeting.

Application deadline: March 20, 2017.

5. Travel and accommodation

SCCE is responsible for the cost of round-trip airfare of international economy class for each invited young scholar and accommodation fee (standard <500 yuan / person / day) for 3 days during the forum period. Meal arrangements are arranged by SCCE.
