Seminar: Novel membrane development and membrane fouling
Abstract:Membranes are increasingly used in water, wastewater, and energy applications. Pressure-driven membrane processes, such as ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis, have received great attention, fuelled by the increasing needs for water purification, wastewater reclamation, and seawater desalination. Many novel membranes and membrane processes are being developed. In parallel, there have been a large number of systematic studies on colloidal fouling of reverse osmosis (RO) and nanofiltration (NF) membranes in the last three decades, and the understanding of colloidal fouling has been significantly advanced. In this seminar, Dr. Chuyang Y. Tang will present his research work on novel membrane development, including biomimetic membranes and forward osmosis membranes. In addition, he will discuss his work on fouling and aging issues of reverse osmosis membranes. Future research needs on RO and NF colloidal fouling are also discussed.
